Supercare Hospital

As it is rightly said, health is wealth. Yes, undoubtedly our health is the most important thing we need to consider in our lives. And it is also our sole responsibility to take care of our health. But there comes a point in our life wherein we need professional guidance and treatment so that we enjoy the best health benefits pertaining to us. Supercare Hospital comes in as that trustworthy entity providing the general public – most modern medical services with a holistic approach.

Meghalaya’s first-ever hospital that has full NABH accreditation, since its beginnings as a medical center in the early nineties, Supercare Hospital has now grown into Shillong’s most wide-ranging and modern hospital and a regional pioneer in implementing the latest medical technology and procedures. The 150-bed multi-speciality establishment caters to thousands of domicile and day patients across more than twenty separate departments daily and is staffed with top doctors, surgeons and a dedicated staff. Also, considering the fact that the people of Meghalaya had to travel to big cities for treatment, which would involve harrowing logistical expenditures and experiences, so since the inception of Supercare Hospital, the services the Hospital provides now helps people save not just on treatment cost but also the logistical costs.

Thus, to understand what Supercare Hospital really stands for and what it looks forward to achieving in the years to come, The Industry Insights Magazine interviewed Dr. R. S. Thangkhiew, the Founder & the Managing Director.

  • How technologically equipped is Supercare Hospital?

One of the biggest trends in healthcare is the growing demand for home care and technology is going to enable this shift. Keeping this in mind, Supercare Hospital too is implementing solutions that will facilitate real-time access to patient information and seamless collaboration among care teams. Our focus is also on the use of powerful role operations management solutions to deliver precision healthcare. Another area of focus is the mental health and emotional well-being of patients and applying new technology and real-time capabilities will help our institution be there for those in need, even when they are not physically at the institution.

  • Pre-Covid and Post-Covid

I think we all can agree that the pandemic puts the healthcare systems that we have (or don’t) in the spotlight. Supercare Hospital, I can proudly say, was very quick to react to the unpredictability that surrounded the situation. From the early weeks, we mobilized our resources to brace for what was to come. It helps that spatially we are blessed and we have an administrative and decision-making process that is in tune with any modern organization. So we put everything in place very smoothly when it came to Covid-19 compliance.

Also, Supercare Hospital is designated as a Covid Hospital and is equipped to handle all categories of covid patients from asymptomatic to critical. We have an efficient testing center and are also designated as a Covid Vaccination center. We have scaled our capacity to screen and treat per the requirements of the time and have plans in place if there is a spike in cases.

In Dec 2022 – The Emergency Department of Supercare Hospital was also granted NABH Certification making it the first and only hospital in Meghalaya to get NABH quality recognition for its Emergency Department and also makes it the second hospital in the entire North-eastern region to achieve this feat.

  • Infrastructural Brilliance

We have a state-of-the-art OT to handle super-specialized surgeries and a 10-bedded Emergency Department with 2 Intensive Care Unit Beds. Based on the patients’ needs there is a wide range of room categories. Privacy in general wards, something not usually associated with that category of facility, is one of the hallmarks of patient experience at Supercare. We have a nurse call system so that nurses and support staff can make sure that the patient is attended to promptly.

Health service is a serious business so we take our technical capacities very seriously. We have ensured that Supercare Hospital can diagnose a very wide spectrum of diseases by maintaining a comprehensive list of medical equipment. Efficient and accurate diagnoses are a result of proficient clinical reasoning which is supported by good infrastructure and we try our best to stay on the cutting edge, at least as far as regional institutions are concerned. Apart from making investments in the right equipment we also emphasize the right kind of work and staff culture.

  • Specialties, Super-Specialties and Alternative Care Units

We have 11 super-speciality departments – Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Nephrology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Urology, Orthopaedics, GI Surgery, Oral & maxillo-facial Surgery, and Interventional Radiology.

Our other speciality departments – internal medicine, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Psychiatry, Dentistry, General & Laparoscopic Surgery, Emergency & Trauma Care, Critical care Medicine, Paediatrics & Neonatology, and Anesthesiology – ensure that we are equipped to tackle the most common ailments and diseases in a focused manner.

Supercare Hospital also provides other key services like dialysis, rehabilitation and detoxification, and counseling. We have very busy speech therapy and physiotherapy units, treating hundreds of people annually. Other key services include a blood center, dietetics unit and kitchen services.

  • Associations and Connections

We have an agreement with ‘Seeds of Innocence’ which is one of India’s leading chain of IVF and fertility centers. This association includes SOI organizing medical check-ups and assessment of patients and referral to their nearest IVF facility in Guwahati for further treatment. Along with an association with Avenues, Shillong who is running the State Level ‘Early Childhood Development & Maternal Health’ helpline. This helpline provides timely support and critical care for medical emergencies with special references to maternal health and early childhood development related issues. This involves tele-counseling to eligible mothers and for all ante-natal care and post-natal care related queries. Additionally, we are proud about  collaborating with Apollo International, Guwahati for Nephrology and Urology OPD where experienced super-specialists have weekly and monthly OPDs.

*Summary*

All in all, operating as a go-to hospital that not only focuses on providing quality healthcare services to all its patients, Supercare also strives to uplift the mental and emotional quotient of all its staff. Despite the pandemic wrecking havoc, the recovery process was effective and smooth, all thanks to the performance and the condition of the onboard teams. Lastly, by reducing stigma and shame around mental health, Supercare Hospital has been extremely successful in keeping the workplace positive, in turn, promoting a sense of belonging and organizational excellence.
